Sound Healing and Sound Baths in Hampton Roads
Sound healing uses instruments such as crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, chimes, drums and the voice to guide you into deep rest. In a sound bath you lie down, close your eyes and let the sound wash over you. Group sound baths are held in yoga studios, wellness centers and outdoors across Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Williamsburg, and many practitioners also offer private sessions.
Ways to experience sound healing
- Group sound baths: 45 to 90 minute sessions, often in the evening or around the full and new moon.
- Private sessions: one-on-one work, sometimes with bowls placed on or around the body.
- Sound and yoga or Reiki pairings: restorative yoga, yoga nidra or Reiki combined with live sound.
- Outdoor and beach sound baths: popular along the Oceanfront in warmer months.
What to bring and what to expect
Wear comfortable layers and bring a yoga mat, a blanket and a pillow or eye pillow, unless the host provides them. Arrive a little early to settle in. Most people simply rest, and some fall asleep, which is completely fine.
Who should check first
Sound baths are gentle, but tell the facilitator if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, are sensitive to loud sounds or have a seizure condition, and check with your doctor if you are unsure.
